Mets Sign Kelvim Escobar......MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

In a move that is so like the Mets, they inked Kelvim Escobar to a 1 year minor league contract. It is almost certain that Mets fans are going to be up in arms about this considering that all the big name pitchers are off the market. The Roy Halladay's, John Lackey's, and Randy Wolf's of the baseball world are celebrating this holiday with their new teams and dreaming of World Series championships. The only thing Mets fans are dreaming about is a way to make spring training 2011 get here without having to watch one 2010 game.

I am not going to be one of those Mets fans who yell and scream for management to sign every single free agent available. I'm smart enough to know that in order to commit 4-5 years and 85-95 million to a player, it has to make sense long term. I'm not an ignorant Yankees fan who can't tell their teams off-season and their Fantasy Baseball Draft apart. The type of Mets fan that I am is the the type that is simply tired of being lied to. Why can't Omar and ownership just be honest with us? Tell us that you are looking more towards the free agent class of 2010; it's a lot better than what most Mets fans are thinking. Fans have all types of scenarios dancing in their head of this Christmas morning. They range all the way from the Wilpon's being broke to players not wanting to come to Flushing because Citi Field is where power hitters come to die.

Stop with the lame approach that this team is going to go to the playoffs if they return healthy. So wait, let me get this straight so I don't misinterpret their message. Your telling me that the team that had an epic collapse in 2007 and a similar but not as pitiful collapse in 2008 and an injury plagued 2009 is suddenly going to be great in 2010? Based on what?!?!!?!?!?! Is it all the division banners we've hung up since 2006? Oh wait, there aren't any. Oh it must be all the playoff games we won in 2007 and 2008. Oh wait, we didn't even make the playoffs. I would love to hear from the bumbling idiot (Omar Minaya) why he thinks this team can be a winner when the only thing they've proven to be is a team that is not good enough. Plain and simple, THIS GROUP IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH!

You see it in sports all the time. How many teams can you look back on that were loaded with talent but just couldn't get over the hump? Sports history is loaded with them. Saying this team can win in 2010 is just an insult to the intelligence of the loyal Mets fans. We aren't stupid Omar so JUST BE HONEST!! Tell us that the reason your not going hard after the big ticket free agent is because your not enamored with this years free agent class. That would be an acceptable answer to most intelligent Mets fans. What isn't acceptable is this illusion you have of a team that has displayed no heart for 3 seasons (aside from Johan Santana) suddenly developing one over the course of 6 months. It's overtly idealistic and beyond ridiculous.

So while Phillies and Yankees fans wake up on this morning and count the number of days until Opening Day, the only thing Mets fans will be counting is how many starts Kelvim Escobar will make before he hits the DL; never to heard from again. Merry Christmas Mets fans. Next year, instead of John Lackey or Matt Holliday, let's just ask Santa Claus for a new baseball team.

Television Review: Dexter Season 5 Finale

I watch so much television these days that I have so much trouble finding other people who are like me. Of course you can always find the people who watch Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, and other trendy shows. It's harder to find the viewers of anything that is on Showtime. We are a rare breed but something tells me that is about to change. Finally!

The season 4 finale of Showtime's hit series "Dexter" gave its viewers a real shock last Sunday. If you are a follower of the show then you were probably expecting a season finale that tied up all the loose ends from previous episodes as well as set up the story line for next season. Nice, clean, and satisfying to the viewer who is tired of cliff hangers that last for an entire year! Instead we got one of the most shocking scenes in the history of the show.

Dexter arrives home from a successful abduction and killing of Trinity only to find his infant son Harrison in a pool of his wife's blood. Rita, who was supposed to be waiting for Dexter at their weekend getaway forgot her ID and got caught in the cross hairs of the Dexter-Trinity battle that had been going on for the past few episodes. All Dexter fans will agree that the final scene of Season 4 left us all with butterflies in our stomach. Rita, who's character got annoying at times has been on every episode of the show. All we know is the Dexter that has Rita to hide behind. She was the ultimate disguise for his Dark Passeneger. Now she is gone and all we can ask ourselves is this: What will become of our favorite serial killer?

The season finale leaves a lot of possibilities for Season 5. Since the writers have openly admitted that they will not even begin to think about Season 5 until a long deserved break, I think it is only fair that we throw some topics of discussion out there that will most definitely come up in the writers room. Here they are, feel free to criticize and bring up some other topics. This is an open forum.

1. Can Dexter show the type of emotion that will totally rule him out as a possible suspect? Since Dexter lacks the necessary emotions required for someone who suffers great loss, how long will it be before Quinn or even Deb start to question who he really is? Quinn has it out for Dexter and already views him as a husband who cheats. Is it possible that Quinn will get the ball rolling on Dexters quirky personality? Will this put Dexter in a position where he may have to dispose of another innocent man?

2. What will stop Dexter from totally abandoning the code and letting the Dark Passenger drive from here on out? I can certainly see Dexter viewing Rita's murder as a way to free himself from Harry's code now and forever. Right before he discovered Rita's body, Dexter was ready to do away with the Dark Passenger and devote the rest of his life to his family. After Trinity's actions, this is no longer possible. Will Dexter give in to the Dark Passenger and enter a life that will eventually lead him to being outed and eventually caught? This is something the writers have been hinting at in the Harry-Dexter scenes this season.

3. Will Deb start to look at Dexter differently after discovering that he is related to the Ice Truck Killer? Dokes always screamed that there was something a little off with Dexter and that he knew more about the Ice Truck Killer than he lead on. Is this something that Deb remembers? Maybe La Guerta? Dexter showing up at Trinity's house quicker than most of the cops is a red flag. Rita murdered by Trinity in an act that showed him break his cycle is another red flag. Dexter being the brother of one of the most ruthless serial killers Miami has ever seen is another red flag. We all know Deb loves her brother; we are reminded of it every other episode in a teary speech that is just weird since we know the two are married. That being said, Deb is a homicide detective, and a damn good one at that. When will the pieces of the puzzle begin to fall into place?

Undoubtedly, Dexter will have a fresh look come Season 5. It was hard enough for Dexter to satisfy his Dark Passenger with Rita at home with the kids. How will he do it as a single dad? Will he do it? Will he have help? These are all questions that Dexter fans are dying to have answered. The greatest part of this show is the fact that the writers always find a way to answer all of our questions and leave us with new ones for the next season. Are you watching David Chase?
